Ouch My Ears

Decapitated Split

 I quickly drew these two ideas on some ACEO sized acrylic paper. They both depict an abstract figure concept of sorts. The first I titled "Split Personality" and the second is titled "Decapitated Feeling." I guess you could say that I have been feeling very separated from the mainstream world (much more than usual).

Gigging and Creating

Tonight I'll be playing with my band at Speaking Rock casino. It will be our second time playing there. I guess the manager of the bar/club liked us enough to book us again. He also booked us for Tuesday. Their stage setup is pretty great and they always pay the bands that play there. I can't complain much because I do happen to need the extra $. Plus, with the money I get from these gigs I'll be able to buy a few more art supplies and keep my creativity soaring. We've also been diligently writing/recording original material and so far everything is sounding awesome.

As for my art, I drew three very abstract images last night on ACEO sized acrylic paper. I pretty much just picked up a sharpie and drew some random shapes and lines until they resembled something. I actually like how they turned out. Here they are:

Heel and Space

Farming

 I drew this up last night. It is mostly based on a miniature sketch I did last summer. I sold the sketch to a friend but I still remember the basic idea behind it. This one is titled "Farm" because life tends to be cultivated as much as a farm is. It depicts one of my versions of a safe haven. The house sits on top of a lush green field/meadow and there is a hole that has been dug underneath it by the resident. The hole is kind of a representation of a home away from home.

Affable

 I drew some simple miniature drawings. There's a total of nine. They were done with permanent markers on smooth Bristol board. I pretty much just drew the first thing that flowed through me.

Apple Wine

 There are many artists who have depicted various types of fruit with wine bottles. I figured I'd try it out. This is a drawing done with permanent markers and watercolor markers on smooth Bristol board; it measures 9 inches by 12 inches. It is titled "Apple Wine."

Figure It Matters

 Two new pen and marker drawings done on back of Stuffing box (cardboard). The first one is titled "Defy Your Maker" and I suppose it was slightly influenced by the band Alice in Chains. But I was more or less trying to convey a certain degree of separation that we all tend to impose on ourselves. The second is titled "Death by Solitude." I got this image in my head of a bunch of interconnecting houses and started imagining how much cooperation would be required in order to ensure that each resident had their own personal space. Seems like it would be difficult and in such a scenario I think solitude would be quite coveted.

I drew some adjacent buildings with permanent markers. I titled this piece "Metropolis." It measures 9 inches by 12 inches. Can you tell which is right-side up? I don't think even I can.

Still Life Drawings

 My newest still life drawings. I might just do some canvas versions of them. I went to my local art supply store today (Hobby Lobby) and picked up some oil pastels and drawing pads. I will be creating some personalized paintings for my family this year. I will definitely post pics of them when I am done. But for now here are the three still life drawings.

Some Older Works of Mine

 Here are some past paintings/drawings of mine.

I sold all of these on Ebay and in my Etsy shop over the course of 5 months. They also happen to chart my "growth" as an artist. Lately, I've been looking to combine abstract painting with some figure drawing. I believe I am getting close to such a concept.
