I've been going through a serious transformation lately. All artists/people do eventually plateau and evolve a bit more. I do wish I could explain it but for right now I cannot. In other news, I will be moving to a new place next week. So far it seems to be a peaceful residence with more room for me to grow.

I am sketching out a ton of concepts for new abstract paintings. I believe I will start incorporating some text within my paintings. Perhaps some numbers as well. For now, here are two still life sketches I whipped up earlier today.

Look For Controversy

Here are some new ink sketches on 3.5 index cards. I've been tinkering around with the idea of using more controversial images/symbols in my work. There are some very important messages I'd like to get across to people but I know that if I were to just come right out and share my perspective then most people won't bother listening. Now, if I were to share my perspective through my art then people would first pay attention to the external shapes and colors but at the same time their subconscious would absorb each grain of knowledge embedded within those shapes and colors. It makes no difference whether they happen to agree or disagree with my perspective. The only thing that would matter is the fact that they would be exposing their mind(s) to something outside of conventional society.

We're All Made of Shapes

 Everyone and everything is essentially a basic shape. Squares, triangles, circles, rectangles can all be seen regularly during the course of a lifetime. Not many of us consciously notice these shapes but they are indeed a big factor of our existence. I drew up these four sketches of shapes while contemplating this very subject. I used nothing more than a blue sharpie, copier paper and my own imagination.

More Color Schemes

 I quickly drew/sketched out these four color schemes. I think I prefer to call them color sketches more than color schemes. Of course, they can also be thought of as abstract color sketches. Well, these color sketches are my way of exploring each color's dynamic. Sometimes I'll get an image in my mind of two or three different colors mixing/overlapping each other. And usually, if I allow myself to think about them long enough, I can feel what kind of energy/emotion those colors would invoke.

Here are the four color sketches. They don't have individual titles. I just titled them "Scheme, Scheme II, Scheme III, Scheme IV." I used pastels on copier paper.

Affable

 I drew some simple miniature drawings. There's a total of nine. They were done with permanent markers on smooth Bristol board. I pretty much just drew the first thing that flowed through me.

 I was listening to some Mozart while I sketched out these concepts.

Grasp Your Friends

 I skipped some posting days but I will make up for that today. Here are two pen sketches which are of an abstract nature but still very figurative. Almost surreal style. The first one is titled "Foot Grasp" and depicts a hand and foot connected to each other. If we had no torso I believe our limbs would still be connected or find some way to stay connected. The second is titled "Friends" and it depicts two seemingly uncommon friends. The flower in between them is a kind of affirmation of their mutual respect and love for each other.

I sold all of these on Ebay and in my Etsy shop over the course of 5 months. They also happen to chart my "growth" as an artist. Lately, I've been looking to combine abstract painting with some figure drawing. I believe I am getting close to such a concept.
