Yourself

Genuine

I've been rocking out with my band every Saturday for the past three weeks. We're still playing cover songs but do intend to start working on original material. The whole thing is a process, just like everything else.

Won't You Be My Neighbor

I did this quick sketch of my neighbor's house. I actually like how it turned out. :-)

This Year

Is there something

In Me

Dying to get out

To introduce itself

I suppose so

This something

Kind of reminds me

of a very innocent day

during a very naive year

This Something

Flickers my light

On and off

Off and on

I will try to introduce

Myself

I must stop abusing the Self

I do not mean

to frighten it

It does not mean

to frighten me

This something exists

Because

It knows

There is no such Thing

As

Nothing

Wrapped On A Table

Had the sudden urge to draw some unknown girl wrapped up like a mummy. I also snapped a quick photo of my coffee table before heading out to the library. :-)

Inklings of Appreciation

I'd like to give a big THANKS to all who have been visiting my blog on a regular basis! It really inspires me to know that there are people out there who are curious about my artistic endeavors. I have nearly reached 500 views on my blog's view counter and I consider that to be a great number for a basic art blog. I'm sure after this post it will exceed 500 views and continue onward. I have been thinking about doing something very special for when I hit 1,000 views. Perhaps I will create a contest/give away of some sort. Nothing too complicated. Just something to help promote my artwork a little more and show my appreciation. The idea I have in mind is still in the very early stages but I am definitely open to some suggestions. Please leave a comment with any ideas or thoughts you might have about such a contest. I won't decide on anything until I hit that 1,000 mark.

In the meantime, here are three recent sketches of mine.

You Can Take My Anger

I finally got around to painting some new abstracts last night. The first one is titled "Stuck In Your Ways" and has a very calming effect to it. I also added some pencil shavings to it for texture. The second one is titled "Take My Anger" and has a very noticeable vibe of frustration and/or anger. I added a piece of tissue paper to it in an effort to make it stand out out a bit more. Both pieces were done with acrylics on a recycled cardboard box. I also mixed in some triple thick glaze. I actually spilled a little paint on myself and one of my favorite blankets while painting these. It's all for the sake of art. :-)

Really Important Lyrics (From A Song By Muse)

The paranoia is in bloom
The P.R. transmissions will resume
They'll try to push drugs, keep us all dumbed down
And hope that we will never see the truth around
So come on

Another promise, another scene, another

Packaged lie to keep us trapped in greed with all the
Green belts wrapped around our minds and endless
Red tape to keep the truth confined, so come on

They will not force us

And they will stop degrading us
And they will not control us
We will be victorious, so come on

Interchanging
mind control
Come let the revolution take its toll
If you could flick a switch and open your third eye
You'd see that we should never be afraid to die

So come on

Rise up and take the power back

It's time the fat cats had a heart attack
You know that their time is coming to an end
We have to unify and watch our flag ascend

Order, Disorder

I created these two pieces last night while watching the black and white film "Julius Caesar." I used permanent markers, clear tape and two torn pieces of lined paper. I also chose a discarded cereal box as my canvas. Both pieces are similar in shape and color and do adhere to a certain theme. The only idea I had in mind while creating them was an image of two different shapes and colors. I titled the first one "Social Order" and the second one "Social Disorder." Why did I choose those titles? I suppose since I was watching the blatant murder of Julius Caesar it got me thinking about how quickly great leaders and tyrants can fall from their pedestal. It doesn't take much and when they do fall they fall very hard.

Digital Flow

The ideas have been digitally flowing lately. :-)

One Another

Dreaming of you

Dreaming of me

We are one

In the same

I admit to wrong-doing

I admit to wrong speaking

I require Nothing

More than your presence

And

It is in your dreams

that we are loved

It is in your dreams

that we are hesitant

Do not let reality keep us from

Past, Present, Future

I just created these pastel/marker pieces after watching "Crazy Heart" (stars Jeff Bridges). The movie is excellent and I do recommend it. Each piece is done on a standard 3 x 5 index card. I titled the first one "Past", the second "Present" and the third "Future." I suppose I just felt like pondering the temporal disturbance we call "time."

Let's Come To Our Senses

I've been occupying my time with a tremendous amount of band practice. Our first gig is this Saturday. I haven't had a lot of ideas as to what to draw/paint next. Perhaps I will try drawing each member of my band. Maybe do some portraits of them or all of us. Sounds like an okay idea. I did sketch out one drawing today after breakfast. I titled it "Senses." It is just a simple ink sketch on smooth bristol board. More to come tomorrow. I've also included a close-up pic of a clear drinking glass. I just thought it looked cool. :-)

Keep on keepin' on! Always!

Pretender

Pretender

he wades

he fakes

he fades

and ponders

his own fate

his own fears

He makes sense

Out of nothing

but appreciates Everything

This Pretender

he lingers

with his finger

On a trigger

Alligator

With these arms

I bear nothing

In my heart

resides something

this hardened shell (skin)

serves no purpose

no one purpose

breathing is an international affair

yet, there is no law that enforces it

there is no money to be made from it

because

The victim wants what the agitator needs

Reuse, Recycle

I created these two pieces by re-purposing a discarded plastic can holder. If you are able to do the same with any discarded/recycled materials I greatly encourage you to do so. Not only would you be creating something unique but you would be creating less waste.

Human Mime (Original Poem)

Standing in a puddle with his arms tied and muzzled

He spews forth his propaganda, it is not anything uplifting

He tries to romanticize his daily drug trips

While a girl walks by and swings her hips

He whistles at her and mimics an intimate gesture

But he knows she is better off without his manure

If he were to cry, just a bit

He might become kind

He might become wise

He might become human

No Mockery

I've had to endure below zero temperatures for the past two days. And since my landlord is too cheap to fix the heater  my room is now able to freeze a whole cow. Not that I've tried to freeze a cow but it is definitely that cold. Not to mention, I've been braving this weather with a head cold. I am doing my best to keep my spirits up. I'm not doing much painting/drawing but I am occupied with learning the last ten cover songs for my band. I did manage to squeeze in some quick abstract work a few days ago. I created two new acrylic pieces. I used some recycled cardboard for the canvas and some torn-up tissue paper to add some texture. I titled the first one "Bandage" and the second "Mock, Mock."

Digital Abstract

I decided to fool around a bit with a basic paint program on my laptop. So far, the three digital abstracts I created look pretty interesting. Of course, digital art does not compare to a real painting but it can be a useful tool/resource. I might just recreate these on real canvas.

Keep on keepin' on! :-)

Winter 2011

Happy Ground Hog Day everyone! The temperatures have dropped considerably in my hometown today. We've been barraged by snow for the past 36 hours. My room is way too cold to do any painting in right now. I took some pics of my snowy neighborhood as soon as I awoke. I also took a pic of me in my favorite sweater. Here they are.
